Work Experience

October 2021–present
Zingerman's Mail Order, Service Center

Service Star
Hired as holiday help, now retained as a year-round employee. Continuing to support ZMO, and excited to contribute to the future of the ZCob.

January 2013–June 2021
Washtenaw Community College,
Digital Media Arts Department
Production Center / Teacher Assistant»

» I processed a wide variety of print jobs for Graphic Design and Photography students.
The gist of it: I know print dialogue menus inside and out. I can print a booklet lickety split, troubleshoot missing fonts and links, and find solutions to get a student's file printed even when the app goes wonky. It's much more than pressing Command+P.

» I designed, tested, and implemented a new method for students to sign-in to get their files printed. This process provides clearer job information for Production Center employees, which means we don't need to ask as many clarification questions of students, we have fewer printing errors, and faster production of student work.

» I maintained computers, high-end printers, and various equipment and supplies for design and photography student use.

» As a Teacher Assistant, I supported instructors and provided Adobe application support for students. Instructors frequently requested me for their TA in subsequent semesters.

October 2010–April 2011
University of Michigan Survey Services Lab
Data Collections Staff

» I interviewed people by phone to collect data for academic studies conducted by the UofM Institute for Social Research.
Nuts and bolts: Who likes cold calling? (At least it was for academics.) I was willing to venture outside my comfort zone to get a job done.
June 2005–September 2007
University of Michigan, Dept of Anthropology
Graduate Admissions Coordinator

» I managed the transition to a new online application system. I created and implemented processes for efficient data management which resulted in faster application review.

» I coordinated and managed the annual recruitment weekend for prospective students.

» I developed a new department process to facilitate faculty letters of recommendation.

Your take away from this whole job: I consistently strive to make
processes better.
Education
January 2013–September 2020
Washtenaw Community College
Graphic Design and Photography
» Associate's degree in Graphic Design, with additional training in Photography.

September 2001–December 2004
Eastern Michigan University
Bachelor’s of Business Administration
» Major in Computer Information Systems.
» Graduated Magna Cum Laude with a final cumulative GPA of 3.85.

Miscellaneous
September 2018–June 2020
Forsythe Middle School PTSO
'Fun Night' Coordinator

» Organize and manage three 'Fun Night' events per school year for 400+ middle-school students.
The bottom line: I can manage a big operation with a lot of moving parts: planning, execution, anticipating problems, giving direction to volunteers, etc. And I deal with middle-schoolers.
» Self-taught to maintain equipment and train volunteer staff to operate photo booth, consisting of an outdated Dell laptop with terrible software, a Canon DSLR camera, and a cantankerous photo booth-specific printer.
Heart of the matter: I am not too shabby at IT-type and general troubleshooting.
May 1998–present
Swing Dance
Just fun stuff

» June ’04 & ’05: initiated and produced two large, highly acclaimed weekend swing dance events in Ann Arbor for 250+ dancers from across the US and Canada.
» ’01-’06: swing dance instructor (Lindy Hop and
East Coast). Planned and executed drop-in classes, often with 100+ people, as well as more intensive, progressive weekly lessons for smaller groups.

Achievement unlocked: I'm practically fearless at public speaking now.
» Fun Fact: I've traveled to more than fifteen states (including Hawaii) for dancing. I've danced on Wrigley Field in Chicago and in the CN Tower in Toronto, among other notable sites.
